Vacation time is over and it seems like the last days of summer are coming. I am looking forward to a productive fall, summertime and the blog statistics showed that people have either been on vacation or prefered to spend their time out on the beach, in the mountains, hanging out in bars or at BBQs. Which I wish I could have done as well...

So here is a question to you - assuming your summer is over as well: What have you done last summer? Floating around on tubes?

A classic photo with a unique sense of humor -- and as a Seattle native it makes me want to see if the "Seattle Tubing Society" still exists!

As for my summer, the first part was wonderful and filled with work (stories in the Balkans) but lately it has been relaxation and vacation. I'm with you Martin, toward a productive fall!

No, I didn't float around on tubes. Although I wish I had because it seems like a nice idea, especially when it's done in style like these folks do... Maybe next summer.

Personally I had a very short break from work, I spent just few days in Berlin this August.
I brought my 6x6 camera with me and I was able to make some rolls concernig a couple of interesting subjects I could see along my stay, now I've to "review" that stuff.
When I was back home, here in Italy, I had to have my house painted myself... what a hard job guys!
Eh, eh, yes I think we're leaving the last days of this summer.
And now... welcome to fall days!
Bye.

I don't know what I did last summer.

In truth, there hasn't been much of a summer in the UK this year. Wet and uuggh.

This is a wonderful, happy shot - instantly eye-catching - to be part of that gang must have been a lot of fun.

Time was spent eating, but the rest is really a blur - we moved from Los Angeles, to New York, and finally to Berlin. This is all according to plan, which looked better on paper than in its execution.

But fall is here, which means twilight is earlier, and people are actually still on the street at that time. The return migration of my subject matter...

I went to India to take care of my ailing mother, and while waiting for her to recuperate I took photos of monsoon in Calcutta and its surrounding areas. This was my first trip back to India at monsoon time after nearly 28 years...monsoon is magical in Bengal. I missed it all these years.

Here are some of the photos (being uploaded one per day):

Hey Matt, it's good to hear your summer was productive as well as relaxing. I also tried to find out more about the "Seattle Tubing Society" but I am always just finding this photograph by Burt Glinn. To bad... Would be interesting to know more about it.

Thanks all for your comments, it seems your summertime was a busy time as well. Max, I don't know the feeling of painting a complete house myselfe but I know how it is to paint an apartment. It's not as funny as it might look. ;-)

For those interested in the Seattle Tubing Society, I've just found yesterday a LIFE magazine issue, August 31, 1953, including a quite long photo-article about the society. The picture posted in the website was also there. The article contains a bunch of great pictures of the society, and they seem to have a great time. They even participated in a parade in downtown Seattle.

Hey Karloto. That is great! I wish I could read that article... Well, maybe I can get my hands on a copy of the August 31, 1953 issue of LIFE one day. :-) Thanks for letting us know!

Unfortunately I didn't have much time to float around on a tube or on the beach (I currently live in Majorca) but had to work a lot :-) Looking forward to start an essay on old villagers and life styles in the heart of the island where tourist usually don't go. By the way beautiful and very moody image wish I could have hang around on a tube.

When looking at this photo i recalled Antonioni movies. Probably there is something common between his movies and this shot.
