There are blogs about family vacations, cooking, knitting, little dog puppies, cats, hidden sexual fantasies, about photography, art and so much more. Despite the fact that nobody could ever possibly read all the blogs out there due to the sheer tremendous number of thousands and thousands of blogs, most of the time it wouldn't be worth it anyway. Frankly but at the same time nicely put: Most blogs are not very interesting at all. At least not if you are not the author or a close friend of the author.

But of course there are many, many exceptions to this as well. There are a whole bunch of blogs that are worth reading, that you can learn from, that can inspire you and broaden your horizon.

In an effort to bring some more inspiration to all of us I have collected 83 links to blogs about photography, art, multimedia and journalism, that I hope might be a source of good information for you. You might know a lot of them, or even all, but maybe you can find a couple of blogs that you did not yet know.

2point8, 5B4, Alec Soth, A Photo A Day, A Photo Editor, A Visual Society, Amy Elkins, Amy Stein, BAGnewsNotes, Ben Huff, Bitter Photographer, Chase Jarvis, Columbia Journalism Review, Conscientious, Dave Greenwood, David Alan Harvey - Road Trips, David Alan Harvey - work in progress, David Alan Harvey - family/friends, David Alan Harvey - student work / workshops, Drinking with a Dead Man, Digital Filmmaker, Edward Winkleman, Fabrica Blog, Flak Photo, From This Moment, Gallery Hopper, Ground Glass, Harlan Erskine, Heading East, Hey, Hot Shot, Hiding In Plain Sight, I Heart Photography, I Like To Tell Stories, Imke Lass, In Search Of The Miraculous, Intersecting Images, Intrepid Art Collector, Japan Photo, Jeff Olson, Jeff Singer, Jonathan Gitelson, Jon Bakos, Joshua Lutz, Journal Of A Photographer, Kevin Miyazaki, Left-Eyed Right-Handed, Lens Culture, Liz Kuball, Look Underfoot, Marketing Photos with Mary Virginia Swanson, MediaStorm Blog, Meet Me In Ataxia, Michael Dooney, Michael Sugrue, Modern Art Obsession, Mrs. Deane, Muse-Ings, (Notes on) Politics, Theory & Photography, Not If But When, Off Center, PDNedu, Pelicula 64, Personism, Photo Book Guide, Photography In Print, Redux Blog, Self-Guided Tour, Shane Lavalette, Shenphoto, Sight Under Construction, Speak, See, Remember, Squint, State Of The Art, Strobist, The F-Stop, The Sonic Blog, The Way I See It, Thomas Broening, Todd Deutsch, Whats The Jackanory, wan.der.lust.ag.ra.phy, You Call This Photography, Zoe Strauss

At the same time I updated the Magnum Blog's link page to include these blogs for future reference. The collection of various articles concerning photography on that page will of course still be available and updated from time to time.

Comments on the selection are appreciated and if you know a blog, or find one in the future, that should be added please let me know. Blogs that we link to usually do not only contain photographs but also some sort of textual information and thoughts. We will check every suggestion and if the submitted link could be of interest and value to our readers we will add it.

I use this website as a cross between a travel & a photoblog. Some people post just for their friends or family, others use it as a forum for their work.

Thank you for the links to the blogs.

great compilation of blogs about photography. I am running one blog about photography myself (exposurecompensation.com) and perhaps you like to consider it to be included in the list of blogs you made.

Thanks indeed and keep the great work.

Hi author, I'd like to ask - if you are subscribed to RSS feeds of those blogs, could you please export the OPML file, so I can subscribe to them without the need to visit each one of them? (If you rss reader support this feature). Thank you.

when I first heard about the magnum blog, I thought "wow, that will be something interesting, when magnum members give some inside information about their photography" some interesting discussion could happen under the blog entries.. I thought this blog would be more alive, a pitty that there is not a lot going on here. regards S.

What a great list. The Magnum Blog is one of my favourite blogs, I knew some of those that you posted here but many are new to me. Where should I find the time to read them all? :-)

What a pity that you have forgotten the The Public Eye Blog.

Perhaps because he is mostly written in German?

Hey very nice posting. I was just thinking the other day that my photoblog isnt all that I hope it would be cracked up to be. I'm fond of saying that its an ego thing. My blog is better than yours and what not. Or hey look how many comments I have. The best thing I like about blogs are that you can reach across the world from your desk at work when things are slow. It also seems funny that we are the same all over.

What about cazurro.com? A cool Spanish photoblogger with a quite easy to navigate photoblog (don't need to be Spanish to know how).

Great job!

Comment posted by Lewis on October 29, 2007

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions. I will check them out today! Fran, you asked why not include a selection of photoblogs. I suppose you are referring to blogs that only show photographs without any form of textual information. If so that is something that we currently don't want to do. Without a doubt there are many "photoblogs" out there with great photographs, but there are also many with a very strong mixture of subjects and topics. One day you might see a nice street photo, the other day it might be a closeup of a flower, a bee or something else.
To me it's not possible to make a selection of blogs that only show photographs that I could publish here with a good conscience in the face of the quality standards that we are going after.

The selection I made (which might not yet be complete and probably never will) should be a good source of information and various opinions. Blogs that only display images do not fit into this category.

The links section will however be expanded in the near future with many links to photography schools, workshops, etc.

Martin, I understand you, that's why a I put 2007 photobloggies link. There's a classification, and there are thematics photoblogs.

My photoblog is one of you'll never put here because it hasn't "a visual subject" (the subject is my life) and it's perfect, but there is fantastic photoblogs out there whit concept :-)

Thanks for you comment, and thanks for your work.

Martin,

Thanks for the great list! It will take a while to visit them all, but I'm gonna try!

There's no shortage of humor on my blog at http://www.digitaldilemmas.blogspot.com . The site is geared toward photographers making the transition to digital capture, with articles on industry news, my coffee addiction and an ongoing battle with Window Vista OS. It is an ever changing work in progress!

I would be honored to be added to the blogroll, if not, I will have to create a voodoo doll in your likeness and squeeze it into an old film canister
