Other websites would call this 'spam'. Since you are pooping in your own nest, I suppose this would be an example of 'autospam'.

Peter, I am not sure I understand your comment. What does this blog post have to do with Spam? We are letting you know about a Magnum Book Party. There might be people out there who actually enjoy meeting a bunch of our photographers.
Comment posted by Martin Fuchs on December 6, 2008
It's more advertising than spamming if you ask me.

Alec Soth is becoming quite the marketeer

This seems like a good venue to point out an upcoming Magnum event. I'm not sure where all the haterade is coming from.

ramanan - it´s odd, no?
is there any successful photographer who is NOT a good marketeer?

what a strange response to an offer to meet the photographers in real life that you hope to read about here; seems like an offer more to be celebrated than one that ends up waking the trolls, but never mind..
…Ironically i too have some criticism,… first there aren't enough of these excuses to see Magnum photographers in real life and just as appealing, chances to meet like-minded people that would attend these events. Please do more. I’ve got no problems buying my books at one of these events verses the Photographers’ Gallery.
And second…..what's up with stealing the British togs across the pond rather than let them entertain the home team over here? Parr, Power, Marlow, shame on you!

HAVE FUN GALS AND GUYS! :)))....
and by the way:
CONGRATULATIONS TO JONAS for having the NY Times select The Places We Live as one of the Best PHoto Books of the Year! :))))...I couldn't agree more!....way to go old man! :)))))))))
cheers

Marketeering can take over from good photography and good photography does not nessesarily equate successful marketeering

Please continue to tell us of Magnum events here on the blog. It gives those of us who don't live near NYC or London or Paris a chance to dream!
